While attending WPPI this year in Las Vegas, I checked out what events were occurring during my stay and to my surprise, I found the annual Steampunk Ball was that weekend at Millennium Fandom Bar.
This club was like a nerd paradise. The owners got when The Star Trek Experience closed several awesome set pieces, including the entryway from the attraction as well as the bar and signage from Quark’s bar in Star Trek Deep Space 9.
The party was a little slow to start but once the band started the dancing and mingling kicked up. The band The Good Hurt, who performed songs from Fallout and Bioshock, provided live music.
Following the live performance began the costume contest. The prize was a one of a kind gun blade provided by a local maker. The winner was Steampunk Wonder Woman.
This was not the most steampunk-y event. It seemed more of an excuse to have a fancy dress party. I think the Millennium Fandom Bar has one of those every weekend if not several. The biggest thing was and I was told when I started in steampunk, is that the only non-steampunk thing is judgment and discrimination. I found this community welcoming and had a lot of fun taking part.
