The Her Universe Fashion Show at San Diego Comicon 2018 was fantastic. From the clothing and accessories presently available at Hot Topic, (many designed by last year’s winners in the design competition), to this year’s group of designers, there were thrills throughout the evening, with this year’s theme “Milestones.”
Ashley Eckstein, the mastermind behind Her Universe, led the excitement as MC of the show. She began with her own fashion, a The Nightmare Before Christmas dress, designed for her by Andrew MacLaine, a former winner of the design competition. The dress was to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the movie.
The 20 design finalists from all over the U.S., with tremendous experience, created beautiful representations of characters and rides, (seen at Disneyland), ever imagined.

Cynthia Kirkland was presented with the Judges Award for her Shape of Water design. Her unique use of color and texture was represented in every stitch.
Jane Burson designed Howl’s Moving Castle with feathers and a jester motif and received the Singer Award.
During the middle of the designer presentations, the new Dr. Who, Jodie Whittaker, was introduced. It was so exciting to see her in person and have a tiny bit of the new season’s storyline mentioned. The idea of a female Dr. Who is so unbelievable. She will be a great representation of the Doctor we all enjoy watching.
The sway bag for the show included many treasures from all the sponsors of the event. They included glasses from Zenni, a DC Pump-vinyl figurine, a Star Wars drink shaker, a T-Shirt, a coupon from Espionage Cosmetics, a BOXLUNCH coupon, an Itty Bitty, a pin and coupon from Loungefly, a coupon for Her Universe merchandise from Hot Topic, and Ashley Eckstein’s book- “It’s Your Universe”. The Her Universe Fashion Show/Milestones was a highlight of San Diego Comicon 2018.
