History of the Dole Whip

Dole Whip was introduced around 1986, when after 10 years of sponsoring The Enchanted Tiki Room, Dole Foods, wanted to build on the initial offer of pineapple juice and pineapple spears. Though there is an offering that combines the pineapple juice with the Dole Whip to make a Dole Whip float.

Since then Dole Whip has gained a cult following to the point where it became the inaugural item for the Disney Parks Snacks merchandise category.

Our Pineapple Swirl Ear Hat is as sweet as can be, but thankfully you won’t get brain freeze. When you have dessert and Disney on your mind, this topper is the perfect accessory to satisfy both cravings

Available through shopDisney

This tasty treat was only available till recently at 3 types of places in the world. Inside the gates of a Disney Park, at The Polynesian Resort at Walt Disney World, or at the Dole Plantation in Oahu. Now this delicious is available at all Disney properties, including one on the same island as the plantation, Aulani, at their Lava Shack. It is also however available at non-Disney locations but in my experience it wasn’t always the same as when you get it in Adventure Land.

Last year with the redo of Paradise Pier to become Pixar Pier, a new flavor of Dole Whip appeared, Lemon. This lemon confection started with the character of the Abominable Snowman from Pixar’s Monsters Inc. who offered Mike and Sully Lemon Snow cones when they arrived. This new flavor is available at Adorable Snowman Frosted Treats. While its never going to replace the original Dole Whip, it was able to join in as part of the family and has fans of its own.

On a side note, Dole whip may look creamy like soft serve ice cream but there is a secret, since the very beginning it has not contained milk, it did however till a bit more recently contain a milk derivative, but since 2013, guests can enjoy a vegan/dairy free Dole Whip if they pick any flavor other than vanilla, but what’s a Dole Whip if not Pineapple anyway in my opinion.
