Amazon Prime’s Carnival Row at San Diego Comic Con 2019
Immigration. Separation. Underground. Class warfare. I’m not talking about the climate here in America, I’m talking about Carnival Row. Through immersive story telling and incredible ambiance, Amazon Prime Video’s activation, you’re transported from a street corner in San Diego to alternate Neo-Victorian era reality where humans and “creatures” share the same space (not exactly sharing).
From passport control, you enter a market. What makes this market special (like most markets) is the variety of clientele surrounding you. Without too many spoilers, “creatures” are considered to be ‘lesser beings’ than humans. Officers ridicule and hold them in contempt for their very existence.
After the market, you’re taken into a brothel/cabaret where pucks with rams horns and fae people perform on-stage as well as in other ways (only implied, what do you think Amazon is in to?) and given a hint at an underground protecting ‘supposed criminals.’
I guess to know more, we’ll just have to wait until our FireTV says Carnival Row is ready for viewing.
