Cochise College Comic Con (C4) was small but tight knit. The con was raising money to donate to St. Jude’s children’s hospital. C4 took place in the quad, student union, and library.

In the quad was what appeared the biggest attraction of C4 the foam sword dueling and LARPing with the group Amtgard . The local group to C4 is called Wyvern’s Roost, which is newer but still growing.

In the library were fan groups such as Heros United and Star Trek: USS Coyote NCC-71825. We spent most of our time between these two booths, taking some time to talk to the various members, about their characters and genres. With the Star Trek fan group we were able to discuss the newest series Star Trek: Discovery, and how it fits into the show universe.

The library at C4 was also the location of the costume contest. Saturday was the youth competition, while Sunday was the Adult competition. The winners were a Van Helsing, Kylo Ren and Rey. Though I was able to capture a bit of story crossover, Jedi Ariel.

The headlining guests included the second Red Ranger and Blue Zeo Ranger, Steve Cardenas, who was nice enough to allow us to photograph him with the Arizona Legacy Rangers in the student union cafeteria.
C4 was what I believed a con would be before they became extremely commercialized. A bunch of friends get together to talk nerdy, sell their creations, and show off their costume skills.
