Standing outside in a parking lot in downtown San Diego, next to what looks like a temporary airplane hanger with a ramp to the front, you wouldn’t expect to enter a garden full of televisions when the doors open.
Amazon this year to display their newest Alexa based technology set up an activation based entirely around Amazon Fire TV. Inside were several interactive experiences to learn more about their devices and “cutting the cord.” The first station you encounter is the tv garden, a display about TVs of the past, as well as showing how some of peoples favorite older shows are still available on Amazon Prime. You also are able to scan your registered RFID wristband to get your name displayed on the TV wall. Next you turn to see the Iron Throne from Game of Thrones, to illustrate how Amazon subscribers can add on an HBO subscription as well as other premium channels without the monthly cable or satellite costs.
In the center of the pavilion was 2 rooms for demonstrating the new amazon echo cube. It had a host to demo, and then participants were offered to test Alexa voice control features. Next time you talk to Alexa try asking “what’s the windspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?”
Next I went to the Fire Stick demo, where they showed the features of the Amazing Fire Stick and how easy it is to use on almost any tv.
The final attraction of the area was the home integration room, where an unreleased soundbar and how easily fire tv units can connect to other components.
Once my wristband was scanned at all 4 areas, I was given entrance to the Fire TV, “Bar and Lounge.” In there attendees were given mocktails themed with the new shows on fire tv, as well as were lent headphones to hear the shows playing, all while having a place to recharge your devices
