Cosplay Charity Organization Gets Zucked

Recently the cosplay charity organization known as, “The OathKeepers CausePlay“, was suddenly removed from Facebook during a purge of “hate” groups.

The group founder’s son, following his time in the military, as a US Army combat medic, noticed a lack of empathy in the world. “(He) believed that people should be held to an oath that is something bigger than themselves. An oath to bring smiles to those who need them. An oath to serve our community. An oath to make a positive difference in our world.” He decided to use cosplay to bring a little joy to the community through the joint efforts of cosplayers from a large range of fandoms. Sadly he passed in 2016.

… believed that people should be held to an oath that is something bigger than themselves. An oath to bring smiles to those who need them. An oath to serve our community. An oath to make a positive difference in our world.

The OathKeepers CausePlay, when they formed, researched to make sure the name was not in use on social media, and acquired the domain which was not already taken, settling on the name The OathKeepers (one word). Years later a group with a similar name, but different purpose, met with the founder. In this discussion the decision was made to change the cosplay group’s name slightly to incorporate their purpose “CausePlay”, and to protect the charity from any fallout from the other organization. Even an alleged “hate” group wanted to protect a group whose sole mission is to help sick children. This failed tragically.

Due to this similarity, in this current world where social media is the lifeblood of society, they have been cut off. They are no longer able to coordinate, or find those who need them, or recruit those who want to help.

In this purge not only was the group’s page closed, but all who were admins were purged from Facebook. This included their personal pages, their business pages, and any associated groups they were admins on, including those meant to allow families who had lost loved ones in the military or lost their children, to communicate with others in similar situations.

The OathKeepers CausePlay have since created a petition to gain access to their accounts and the page so they can change the group’s name to the acronym “TOKCP” to remove any ability to associate their page with the other group. Click here to view the petition

We need to amplify this, light the beacons, load this into our R2 units, carry the banner, and spread the word. However, if you do share this article please do not use Facebook. This is to keep us and you from experiencing a similar fate.
